Generiek is an architectural office based in Belgium and Hong Kong, and was founded in 2016 by Lorenz Adriaens, Lando de Keyzer and Richard Leung. Our projects adopt a generic grammar of typologies and techniques as a guiding framework to claim and create spaces out of specific sites and contexts. The office is interested in working along a range of scales, from installations to architecture to urban and territorial planning. Theory and research forms a core aspect during our design process and is further actualised through our academic involvement globally through teaching, juries and lectures.

The word generic is etymologically derived from the Latin word genus, meaning to arrange and classify. In a way, to establish a sense of order, to organise and to seek coherence and commonality among disparate entities (objects, spaces and people etc.). It is with this approach that Generiek practices, by first understanding the forms of life lived in contemporary society, and translating these relationships into physical space.

Recent projects include a series of houses, schools and church conversions in Flanders and landscape+residential masterplans in the US.

Generiek was selected as part of the Promising Young Architects programme at the Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam in 2019 and was one of 8 young Belgian practices featured in the 2020-21 ACROSS series held by Aplus architectural magazine. The practice’s work has been exhibited at various venus including Ravenstein gallery in Brussels, Flemish Architecture Institute(VAi), Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Archifest in Singapore.
